STAC Sprint Football Falls in Spring Exhibition to Caldwell, 21-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football team played in their lone 2021 spring exhibition contest on Friday evening, falling to Caldwell University, 21-0 at Monsignor Owens Park in Nutley, NJ.

In first quarter action, Caldwell's Jeremy Colon caught a 64-yard strike from quarterback Steven Yost to make it 7-0 Cougars.

The Cougars doubled their lead at 14-0 in the third quarter, as a Frank DeMaio would cap an eight-play, 70-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown run.

Caldwell wrapped up their scoring in the fourth quarter, as Yost tossed his second TD of the game, this time connecting with Jared Dockett on a 28-yard scoring play, to make it 21-0, which would be the final outcome when the scoreboard clock hit all zeros.

Kiel McKenzie went 7-for-19 passing on the evening for 40 yards. Backup quarterback Jayden Bennermon would would also get reps under center and go 5-for-8 for 45 yards. Meanwhile, Davion Hicks picked up 45 total yards on 8 rushes, Phillip Meikle would make 3 catches for 48 yards and Javaughn Anderson would make 3 grabs for 21 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Christopher Jones made 7 total tackles on the night, with Jones, Kyle Marsha and Kyle Teneyck each picking up a sack. Bo Maroney had 6 punts for 206 yards, with his longest kick going 46 yards down field.
