STAC Sprint Football Gets Back On Track, Beating Chestnut Hill, 27-14

Conshohocken, Pa. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football snapped its four-game winless streak with a 27-14 victory over Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.

STAC moves to 2-4 on the year, while Chestnut Hill drops to 0-6.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Kenny completed 13 of 28 pass attempts for 232 yards, while throwing four touchdown passes. Teammates Reno Molina, Hassan Blakney and Jayden Bennermon would each be on the receiving end of those Kenny throws for scores.

 

STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

  • Reno Molina led the way with five receptions for 159 yards two touchdowns catches, including a 77-yard snag.
  • Bo Maroney had nine carries for 18 yards on the afternoon.
  • Christopher Jones was a powerhouse on defense for the Spartans, picking up 12.5 total tackles on the day (9 solo & 7 assisted), while 1.5 tackles were for a loss of 4 total yards.
  • Donnell White, Jr. led the sack parade, with 2.5, dropping Chestnut Hill QBs C.J. Small and Anthony Cancell.
  • Starting quarterback Ryan Kenny completed 13 of 28 passes, for 232 yards and three touchdowns.
  • The Spartan defense core compiled 63 total tackles, one interception (Kasey Sullivan) and 5 sacks (Christopher Jones 0.5, Donnell White, Jr. - 2.5, JT Perry - 0.5, Malik Lucas - 0.5 and Malik Bennett - 1.0) in the win over the Griffins.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter

  • STAC opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest, as Ryan Kenny would hook up with Reno Molina on a 45-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0. 

Second Quarter

  • No Scoring. 

Third Quarter

  • A C.J. Small 3-yard TD strike to Nick Ocampo tied things up at 7-7 with 12 minutes left to play in the stanza.
  • Ira Baine's 12-yard scamper to the endzone put Chestnut Hill ahead 14-7 midway through the quarter.
  • Before the end of the quarter Ryan Kenny found Hassan Blakney on 5-yard throw for a touchdown. However a missed Bo Maroney extra point would keep the Spartans down one at 14-13.

Fourth Quarter

  • Ryan Kenny and Jayden Bennermon connected on a 3-yard TD pass with just under 11 minutes to play. A Kenny QB keeper on the 2-point conversion gave St. Thomas Aquinas a 21-14 advantage.
  • STAC put the game away with a 77-yard touchdown pass from Kenny to Reno Molina to make it 27-14 with 7:40 to play.

St. Thomas Aquinas closes out the 2022 CSFL Season, facing Cornell University on Friday, November 4 (7:00 p.m.) at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the contest between the Spartans and Big Red.
