Sprint Football Drops 53-9 Decision to Army

Hillburn, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football team dropped a 53-9 decision to the Army Black Knights on Friday evening at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Army improved its record to 4-1 and 2-0 in the CSFL North, while STAC drops to 1-3 and 0-2 within the North Division.

STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

  • Hassan Blakney led the way with five receptions for 31 yards, with his longest catch being a 16 yarder.
  • Reno Molina garnered 6 rushing attempts for 15 total yards.
  • Kasey Sullivan registered 11 tackles (9 solo, 2 assist) in the game and also had a blocked extra point.
  • Starting quarterback Jayden Bennermon completed 11 of 27 passes, for 49 yards, while throwing three interceptions. He also had five rush attempts for nine total yards.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter

  • An 8-yard TD run by Mikal Willeke gave Army an early 7-0 lead.
  • Willeke's 13-yard pass to Cody Lominac extended the Black Knights lead to 14-0.
  • STAC would get on the scoreboard via an Erick Campbell 80-yard pick-six to cut the deficit in half at 14-7.
  • Another Mikal Willeke touchdown scamper, this time for five yards gave Army back its 14-point advantage, 21-7, just before the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter

  • Willeke's third rushing TD, this one for nine yards, came midway through the frame and gave the Black Knights a commanding 27-7 lead.
  • Cody Lominac would get on the stat sheet again before halftime via a Mikal Willeke 8-yard strike to make it 34-7.

Third Quarter

  • A Seth Brown 4-yard run to the endzone pushed the Army lead to 41-7 early in the stanza.
  • Bryson Werntz's catch and run for a 20-yard score gave the Black Knights a 47-7 lead.
  • On the ensuing extra point, Casey Sullivan was able to block the kick and the loose ball was picked up by teammate Erick Campbell and returned for two points, making it 47-9.
  • Ben Abercrombie closed the scoring in the quarter with a successful 32-yard field goal try to make it 50-9 in favor of the visitors.

Fourth Quarter

  • Abercrombie's 33-yard field goal would be the final points of the game and extend the Army lead to 53-9.
