
Hillburn, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football team closed out its 2022 campaign, blanking Cornell University, 28-0 on Friday evening at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
STAC ends its season going 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the CSFL North Division, while Cornell ends their season with a 2-5 overall mark, and 0-4 in the CSFL North.
Prior to the team's season finale, the Spartans honored its graduating senior class; Mahki Matthews, Elizah Gordon, Malik Bennett, Sheriffh Bittaye, Dylan Schneider and Rawle Prentice with on-field ceremonies, which included the athletes' families, teammates, coaches and college administrators.
Quarterback Ryan Kenny completed 7 of 12 pass attempts for 102 yards, while running for another 61 yards on six attempts. Teammates Bo Maroney, Reno Molina (2) and Elizah Gordon would each pick up rushing touchdowns in the contest.
STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Reno Molina led the way with 15 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
- Mahki Matthews had four receptions for 58 yards on the evening.
- Malik Bennett and Esmond Oldums powered the Spartans defense, picking up 5.5 tackles each.
- Jake Reyes and Brayan Anaman led the sack parade, with one apiece, dropping Cornell's Xavier Martinez.
- Starting quarterback Ryan Kenny completed 7 of 12 passes, for 102 yards.
- The Spartan defense corps compiled 44 total tackles, three interceptions (Shawn Benard (2), Christopher Jones) and two sacks (Jake Reyes, Brayan Anaman) in the win over the Big Red.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- No Scoring.
Second Quarter
- STAC opened the scoring in the closing seconds before halftime, as Bo Maroney made his way to the endzone on a 1-yard scamper for the touchdown, to make it 7-0.
Third Quarter
- A minute and a half into the new stanza, Reno Molina ran for a 6-yard score to double the Spartan lead at 14-0.
Fourth Quarter
- Molina's second rushing TD of the game, came via a 2-yard sprint across the goal line to extend the maroon and gold advantage to 21-0 with just over 12 minutes to play.
- St. Thomas Aquinas closed the scoring for contest and the 2022 season, when Elizah Gordon made his way to the endzone on a 5-yard run, making it 28-0.
