Spartan Track Wraps Up Sunshine State Tour at Miami U. Hurricane Invitational
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed this past weekend at the University of Miami Hurricane Invitational. Many impressive school records were broken on the track and in the field events over the 2-day event in Coral Gables, Florida.
 
Senior, Rickssen Opont took 2nd place in the Shot Puth with a new school record throw of 17.67m (57'11.75), which is currently 4th in Division II. The men's 4x100 Meter Relay team of St. Jacob Diodonet, Dante Brown, Jarrett Millien, and Jaren Scott once again re-wrote a school record with a 7th place time of 41.53, and was the 2nd place Division II team in the event. 
 
On the women's side of things, Christina Maretzo also had a great day on the track, running a new personal best in the 1500 with a time of 4:49.20 taking 4th in the competition and she also ran 2:21.26 in the 800. Rebecca MacLeod also excelled on the day, when she ran 2:19.45 in the 800 and 4:59.86 in the 1500 meters.
 
The Spartans and Lady Spartans next compete as a full squad on March 30th at the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet.  A select group Spartans and Lady Spartans will be traveling to the Lone Star State to take part in the Texas A&M Kingsville Cactus Cup in Kingsville, Texas on March 22 & 23. The site is where the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships will be held in late May.
