Diodonet, Maretzo & Opont Take Home Weekly ECC Outdoor Track & Field Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas College Outdoor Track & Field athletes St. Jacob Diodonet, Christina Maretzo and Rickssen Opont were honored by the East Coast Conference on Monday for their outstanding efforts while on the Spartans recent spring break Florida tour.

Diodonet was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week after hitting a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Championship with a time of 47.68, while winning the 400m at the Shark Invitational. The senior sprinter from West Milford, NJ also took first place in the 200m at the same event with a time of 21.45. Saint was also part of the 4x100 team that hit a new school record in a time of 41.53 at the Hurricane Invitational.

Maretzo was selected as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week after having a great week for the Spartans, taking first place in the 1,500m at the Shark Invite in a time of 4:59.19. The following day, the sophomore middle distance runner from Tuxedo, NY came back to run the 1,500m once again, this time recording a 4:49.20 for a fourth place finish. The time leads the East Region in the event and is a new personal record.

Finally, Opont took home the Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors after hitting a new personal record and an NCAA Division II Championship provisional mark at the Hurricane Invitational with a shot put throw of 17.67m. The redshirt junior thrower from Nyack, NY hit a mark which took second place in the event, and is currently the top recorded distance in the East Region.

The Spartans will next compete in the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet in Easton, PA on Saturday, March 30.
