On Friday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field team hosted the sixth edition of the Spartan Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY. The invitational saw over 500 athletes take part in events, with Division I, II, III schools all competing.

 

Returning to action for the first time in almost a month due to the holiday break and scheduling changes, both the STAC men's and women's squads performed well on the afternoon.

 

Headlining the women's performances were Skylar Moreno's Mile Run, where she came in at a time of 5:12.53, which was good for a second place finish. Teammate Abagaile Kimbrell crossed the finish line moments late in the same race in a time of 5:16.61, placing third. Also, Christina Maretzo finished third in a spirited 1000 meter run in a time of 3:15.25.

 

On the men's side of the ledger, the 4x200 Meter Relay team of Shawn Benard, Sebastian Cherry, Aiden De La Rosa and Christan Watson were victorious, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:37.00. Alex Quillan took a second place finish in the 500 Meter Dash, in a time of 1:08.64. In the cage, Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez, showed his strength, placing third in the Weight Throw with a toss of 15.57 meters/51 feet 1 inch.

St. Thomas Aquinas returns to action next Friday, January 21, as the Spartans travel to the 168th Street Armory in New York City for the Ramapo College Opener. Events begin at 10am.
