Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field program squared off with ten other conference members in the annual East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island on Saturday. On the day, the men's squad took a fourth place finish, while the women's team finished eighth.
Headlining the outstanding championship meet performances on the track for the Spartans include Elizah Gordon's victory in the 60 Meter Dash, clocking in at 6.93, Andrew Drescher's first place finish in the 1000 Meter Run with a time of 2:37.23. In the field events, Jayden Bennermon placed second in the High Jump, with a leap of 1.98m and Emmanuel Mena Jimenez's outstanding work in the cage, finishing first in the Weight Throw with a toss of 18.24 and second in the Shot Put with a throw of 15.39m.
On the women's side, Skylar Moreno placed fourth in the 1000 Meter Run with a time of 2:27.44 and Ciara Durcan finished fourth in the 5000 Meter Run, crossing the finish line at 20:30.32.
In addition, on Monday the ECC named its All-Conference team selections. Spartans Ciara Durcan (1st/5000M), Elizah Gordon (1st/60M & 2nd/200M), Andrew Drescher (1st/1000M), Jayden Bennermon (1st/High Jump), Emmanuel Mena Jimenez (1st/Weight Throw & 2nd/Shot Put), Charlie Moore (2nd/800M), Ryan Folmer (2nd/Pole Vault) and Tyler Robinson (2nd/Weight Throw) were all recognized for their extrodinary efforts in the conference championship meet
STAC now prepares for the upcoming Outdoor Track & Field season, which will begin in mid-March when the Spartans travel to Florida during Spring Break.
