STAC Track & Field Hosts 2024 Spartan Invitational
Staten Island, N.Y. - On Friday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field program hosted the eighth edition of the Spartan Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The invitational saw over 1,500 athletes take part in events, with 30 Division I, II and III institutions and community colleges all competing.
 
Headlining the women's performances were Ciara Durcan's One Mile Race Walk victory, where she came in at a time of 7:07:38. Also Nicole Gysin placed eighth in the Triple Jump and tenth in the High Jump with leaps of 10.42m (34'2.25") and 1.50m (4'11") respectively.
 
On the men's side of the ledger, Emmanuel Mena Jimenez continued to dominate inside of the cage, placing first in the weight throw with a toss of 18.38m (60'3.75") and then taking fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 15.30m (50'2.5"). Mena Jimenez remains the standard bearer in the Weight Throw event by maintaining his NCAA Division II Provisional Mark. Additionally, fellow thrower Adam Lenn took eighth place in the Shot Put with a toss of 13.78m (45'2.5"), while teammate Jaydon Bennermon finished fifth in the High Jump with a leap of 1.98m (6'6").
 
St. Thomas Aquinas returns to action next Friday, January 19, as the Spartans travel to the 168th Street Armory for the Ramapo College Opener. Events begin at 10am in New York City.
