Staten Island, N.Y. - On Friday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field program hosted the ninth edition of the Spartan Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The invitational saw over 1,500 athletes take part in events, with 30 Division I, II and III institutions and community colleges all competing.
Headlining the women's performances were the team of Isabella Farino-Esposito, Zoe Merryman, Ciara Durcan & Emma Neil, who placed third in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 13:05.41 and Samantha Frisbee's third place finsh in the One Mile Race Walk, where she clocked in with a time of 9:11.63.
On the men's side of the ledger, Emmanuel Mena Jimenez continued to dominate inside of the cage, placing first in the weight throw with a toss of 20.43m (67'0.5"). Mena Jimenez remains the standard bearer in the Weight Throw event by maintaining his NCAA Division II Provisional Mark. Additionally, fellow thrower Adam Lenn took third place in the Shot Put with a toss of 14.84m (48'8.25").
St. Thomas Aquinas returns to action next Friday, January 17, as the Spartans travel to the 168th Street Armory for the Ramapo College Opener. Events begin at 10:00 a.m. in New York City.
