The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost to C.W. Post, 54-46. Briana Sloper had 19 points and 5 rebounds for STAC. Sophomore Natalie Catavero had 9 points for STAC shooting 3-5 from behind the arc.
Theresa Dowling made a put back at the buzzer to bring STAC within one at the half, 22-21. Bianca Kowgios hit a jumper at the 14:26 mark to give STAC the lead, 29-28 and spark a 7-0 run. Freshman Shpresa Liharevic hit a jumper putting STAC ahead 38-30 but the Lady Spartans struggle to get another field goal over a five minute stretch. The Pioneers Gina Catherall hit a 3-pointer to give C.W. Post a 39-38 lead with 6:44 remaining. Sloper scored a layup regaining the lead for STAC on two occasions the latest, 44-43 with 3:46 to go in the game. Slopers final basket came twenty seconds later to tie the game up, 46-46.
Junior Janea Aiken scored a layup to give C.W. Post a two point lead before draining a three on the next possession pushing them ahead 51-46 with 1:10 left to go. The Pioneers finished 3-5 from the foul line to secure the win. Aiken led C. W. Post with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Gina Catherall added 13 points.
The Lady Spartans will return to action on Wednesday as they host Bridgeport for a 5:30 PM game.
