Lady Spartans Blast Mercy, 72-43

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat visiting Mercy College, 72-43 in tonight's ECC game.  Briana Sloper led the way with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Sylvia Davis added 14 points and 8 assists.

The Lady Spartans used a 25-4 run in the middle of the first half to push past the Mavericks and give them a double digit lead they would not relinquish.  Sloper scored 16 points during the run while Davis added 4 points and 4 assists.  Senior Colleen Vogel extended STAC's lead to twenty-three (41-18) as she drained a three with 2:29 remaining in the half.  Both teams exchanged three pointers, one from Davis and one from Ashley Borofosky to finish out the half 44-21 in favor of the Lady Spartans.

STAC came out strong in the second half as freshman Bianca Kowgios hit a three followed by a Sloper layup and a jumper by Theresa Dowling to put them ahead, 51-21.  Dowling finished with 10 points and 3 assists.  Senior Whitney Dugan's layup with 7:18 left in the game pushed STAC's lead back to thirty.  Dugan finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds. 

STAC outrebounded Mercy 45-30 while forcing 25 turnovers.  Borofosky finished with 15 points for the Mavericks while Delmara Reece added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Spartans will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to C.W. Post for a 1:30 game.
