Lady Spartans Fall to Knights, 70-58

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a 70-58 game at Queens.  Freshman guard Shpresa Liharevic scored 25 points, had 4 assists and 3 steals for STAC.  The rookie went 5-8 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the foul line. 

Freshman Chloe Johnson's layup tied the game 18-18 with 6:00 left in the half.  Queens went 11-13 from the free throw line as they ended the first half on a 14-7 run going into the break up 32-25.  Johnson led the way for Queens with 19 points connecting on 7-9 from the field and 5-5 from the foul line. 

Danielle Tharrington scored with 11:38 left in the game to put Queens ahead ten, 48-38.  Liharevic hit two three pointers down the stretch to bring STAC back within single digits; the last one at the 6:20 mark making the score 58-51.  However, Queens continued to pound the ball inside and get to the free throw line as they finished the game off on a 12-7 run.  The Knights went 33-40 from the free throw line while the Spartans were 10-18. 

STAC will return to action on Saturday as they travel to NYIT for a 2 PM game.
