Lady Spartans Drop, 60-56 Loss in OT

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost 60-56 in OT to visiting Molloy College.  STAC received 21 points and 14 rebounds from Briana Sloper.  Sylvia Davis added nine points and 5 assists.

Molloy held a five point lead at the break before STAC went on a 9-2 run to start the second half.  Both teams exchanged baskets before STAC took a one point lead on a Kowgios layup putting them ahead, 35-34.  With neither team leading by more then two over the next few possessions, Sohie Bertrand hit a jumper to put STAC ahead three, 48-45 with 5:16 remaining. Kowgios scored a layup to give the Lady Spartans a five point lead.   

The Lions went 4-6 from the foul line to get back within one.  Sloper made two free throws putting STAC ahead three before Woodbury connected on back to back layups regaining the lead for Molloy, 53-52 with one minute left in regulation.  Freshman Shpresa Liharevic knocked down two free throws with :50 seconds left in the game to give STAC a 54-53 lead but Molloy's Clarissa Jones went 1-2 from the line to tie the game and force overtime. 

Molloy outscored STAC 6-2 in the extra session knocking down four free throws and a layup by Woodbury.  STAC held a 43-36 advantage on the boards and received five rebounds each from Liharevic and Kowgios.

STAC will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Dowling for a 1 PM game.
