Lady Spartans Beat NYIT, 75-59

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat NYIT, 75-59 in this afternoon's ECC game.  Briana Sloper had 25 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists to lead the way for STAC.  Theresa Dowling had a season high 20 points knocking down 4-5 from behind the arc.

Sloper connected on a three point play to put the Lady Spartans ahead 8-5 giving STAC a lead they maintained for the majority of the half.  NYIT's Latoya Anderson scored a layup with :21 seconds left in the half to tie the score at 32-32.  However, Sloper hit a short jumper at the buzzer to give STAC a two points lead at the break.   

STAC used a 17-1 run midway through the second half to open the game giving them a 56-41 lead with 9:55 to go.  STAC went 8-8 from the foul line during the spurt and also received 3-pointers from Colleen Vogel and Dowling.  Dowling went 6-10 from the field and pulled down 7 rebounds as STAC outrebounded the Bears 42-25.  Sophomore Kim Vareles and Shpresa Liharevic each added 5 rebounds.

Freshman Bianca Kowgios dished out a game high seven assists.  Liharevic added 13 points for STAC shooting 4-8 from the field and 4-5 from the foul line.  STAC went 22-26 from the line.  Senior Madison Robertson had a game high 26 points for the Bears shooting 5-11 from the floor and 14-16 from the foul line.

STAC will return to action on Wednesday as they host Molloy College for a 5:30 PM game.
