The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat Dowling, 58-51. Freshman Shpresa Liharevic had 19 points including 5-8 from behind the arc while Briana Sloper added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Dowling got off to a 5-0 start before sohpomore Sylvia Davis drained a three putting STAC on the scoreboard. Sloper scored a layup and Liharevic hit a jumper giving STAC a 6-5 lead. With five lead changes and four ties throughout the half STAC took a 20-19 lead into the break.
Sloper scored a layup in the opening minutes of the half followed by a three pointer from Colleen Vogel and a Sloper free throw putting STAC up seven, 26-19. Liharevic hit a three followed by two free throws as STAC went ahead, 42-31 with 9:08 left in the game. Dowling went on an 11-2 run behind five points from freshman Seja Gamble to bring them within two, 44-42 with 4:31 left to play. Sloper made a layup in transition off an assist by Davis and Vogel knocked down her third three a play later pushing STAC's lead back to seven at 3:33.
Gamble scored another layup but Liharevic responded with her fifth three ball giving STAC an eight point advantage in the final two minutes of play. Davis went 4-5 from the foul line to close out the game. Davis finished with 9 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Vogel also added nine points while Leane Urbancik grabbed five rebounds and three steals for STAC.
Gamble lead Dowling with 13 points while Simona Bartkova had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
