The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat NYIT, 78-45. Briana Sloper had a season high 29 points and 6 rebounds in 16 minutes of action. Colleen Vogel added 12 points shooting 5-10 from the floor. Sylvia Davis had 14 assists to go with her seven points and 3 steals.
The Lady Spartans opened the game on an 8-0 run behind 6 points from Sloper and a layup from Vogel. Vogel added another layup and a three pointer a couple of possessions later to put the Lady Spartans ahead 16-5 at the 14:23 mark. Freshman Shpresa Liharevic knocked down two free throws to give STAC a 28-12 lead. Thresea Dowling scored a layup with 1:20 left before the break that sparked an 8-4 run, giving STAC a 42-21 lead at the half. Dowling added 5 assists and 2 steals for STAC.
STAC came out strong in the second half, extending their lead to thirty behind a layup from freshman Leane Urbancik. Liharevic scored back to back baskets for STAC before Sloper made another layup putting STAC up 64-32 with 11:55 left in the game. The Lady Spartans held a 45-33 advantage on the glass with Urbancik pulling down 8 boards.
STAC will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Molloy College for a 1:00 PM game.
