Lady Spartans Upend C.W. Post, 67-61

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat C.W. Post, 67-61.  Briana Sloper had 26 points and 9 rebounds while Sylvia Davis added a career high 19 points.

STAC came out strong taking an 8-0 lead.  The Pioneers chipped into the lead before freshman Bianca Kowgios scored a layup to put STAC up 19-10 with 9:51 left in the half.  C.W. Post went on a 7-2 run to close within four before Sloper made two free throws and Davis hit a three pointer to put STAC ahead, 26-17.  The Pioneers finished the half on an 11-5 run.  Sloper scored a three point play and junior Theresa Dowling made a layup as STAC closed out the half ahead, 31-28. 

STAC maintained their lead in the second half with Sloper scoring off an offensive rebound to give the Lady Spartans a double digit advantage, 51-40.  Sophomore Natalie Catavero made a free throw to give STAC its largest lead, 54-40 with 10:13 left in the game.  Davis made a layup with 7:48 remaining to keep STAC ahead fourteen.  However the Pioneers had one more run in them as they pushed a 12-1 run to tie the game at 61 with 1:06 remaining. 

Sloper grabbed another offensive rebound and scored a putback to give STAC back the lead with :41 seconds remaining.  STAC forced a turnover in the Pioneers final possession and Kowgios made two free throws to seal the victory.  Kowgios and Dowling each added 6 points for STAC.  Janea Aiken had 18 points for C.W. Post and Felicia Joyner added 13.

The Lady Spartans play their final regular season game on Saturday as they travel to Bridgeport for a 1 PM game.
