Lady Spartans Remain in Regional Poll for Week 2

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team received the 10th place ranking in the NCAA Northeast Regional Poll.  This is the second week of the rankings in which STAC has been ranked for both weeks dropping from 9th place.  The Lady Spartans were 15-5 and 11-2 prior to the voting.

Junior forward Briana Sloper leads the Lady Spartans in scoring averaging 18.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.  She is the second leading scorer in the ECC and 7th in rebounding.  Sophomore guards Shpresa Liharevic and Bianca Kowgios average 10.8 and 10 points per game.  Liharevic has knocked down a team high 35 triples while Kowgos has dished out 114 assists.  Kowgios stands on top of the ECC dishing out 5.77 assists per game. 

Senior Theresa Dowling has averaged 10 points per game in the month of January leading up to the rankings along with 5.7 rebounds per game.  Junior Kim Vareles is the Lady Spartans third leading rebounder at 4.8 overall and 5.6 in conference play.   Sophomore Leane Urbancik provides a strong 6th man presence for STAC with an average of 8.7 points and 4.2 rebounds.  Natalie Catavero and Riley Harrington give the Lady Spartans a spark off the bench with their solid play and contributions. 

STAC defeated Queens College last night with a 67-50 victory to move to 12-2 and remain on top of the ECC.  The Lady Spartans will face NYIT on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
