Lusk, Sloper, Kowgios and Harrington Earn ECC Accolades

St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball coach, Kim Lusk was named the ECC Coach of the Year.  Briana Sloper was named the ECC Co-Player of the Year and 1st Team All Conference.  Bianca Kowgios was named the ECC Defensive Player of the Year as well as 2nd Team All Conference.  Riley Harrington was named to the ECC All Rookie Team.

Lusk complied her winningest season at the helm of the Lady Spartans this year with an overall record of 21-7 and 17-4 in the ECC.  STAC clinched the regular season title in their home game against Bridgeport on February 23rd.  The Lady Spartans have reached the post season in all three seasons since Coach Lusk has taken over the program.  

Junior forward Briana Sloper leads the Lady Spartans in scoring with 17.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg.  The junior forward was named the 2009 ECC Rookie of the Year and 2nd Team All Conference in her freshman campaign.  Sloper was a 1st team All Conference and 1st Team All Met selection as a sophomore averaging 16.4 ppg and 8.4 rpg.  She scored her 1000th point earlier this season on December 4th at NYIT.  She has scored 1,372 points in her career making her STAC's NCAA Division II All Time Scoring Leader.  Sloper was a 4x Player of the Week selection this season and ranks among the top three scorers in the conference. 

Sophomore guard Bianca Kowgios is averaging 9.4 ppg and 4.0 rpg for the Lady Spartans.  The sophomore point guard leads the ECC in assists per game averaging 5.07apg.  She is also among the top three in free throw percentage at 81.8%.  Kowgios is a tenacious on the ball defender and has helped the Lady Spartans hold their opponents to 60 points or below on 13 occasions.

Harrington has gained valuable minutes off the bench this season averaging 4.0ppg while knocking down 26 3-pointers.  The rookie has averaged 16.8 minutes of action playing in all 28 games this season.  She was named ECC rookie of the week earlier this season.  The freshman guard is an 80.0% free throw shooter and has dished out 28 assists this year. 

The Lady Spartans are schedule to play the winner of tonight's #4 v. #5 match-up between C.W. Post and Queens College.  STAC will play the winner on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the University of Bridgeport.
