The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat C.W. Post, 52-51. Briana Sloper had 17 points and 5 rebounds. Shpresa Liharevic and Leane Urbancik added 11 and 9 points respectively. Theresa Dowling had 6 points and a team high 8 rebounds for STAC.
STAC opened the game on a 6-0 run behind four points from Sloper and a jumper from Liharevic. The Lady Spartans expanded their first half lead back to six behind a pair of free throws from Urbancik at 14:07. The Pioneers closed the gap with a 5-0 run to come within one, 16-15. C.W. Post went on to take their first lead on a jumper from Felicia Joyner at 9:45. A traditional three point play from Sloper gave STAC back the advantage, 19-17. After five ties and two lead changes; the Lady Spartans took a two point lead into the break, 31-29.
STAC opened the second half on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 8. Back to back layups from Sloper gave STAC a nine point lead at 11:37. The Lady Spartans scored their final field goal at 6:08 off an Urbancik three-point play. The Pioneers finished on a 7-0 run to come within one.
C.W. Post held a 38-25 advantage on the boards. Alyssa Lombardi had a game high 12 rebounds while Janea Aiken had 17 points for the Pioneers. Bianca Kowgios dished out a game high 6 assists for STAC.
STAC will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bridgeport University for a 1:00 game.
