Lady Spartans Fall to Lions, 75-60

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost at Dowling, 75-60.  Briana Sloper had 17 points and 10 rebounds while Theresa Dowling added 15 points and 6 boards.  Riley Harrington and Leane Urbancik each had 7 points for STAC while Bianca Kowgios dished out 7 assists.

Theresa Dowling hit a jumper at the 15:13 mark to give STAC a 6-5 lead however it was there only lead for the game.  The Lions responded with a Julia Koppl 3-pointer to get back ahead 8-6.  Briana Sloper tied the game with a layup as the teams exchanged baskets over the next few possessions.  Urbancik added back to back layups to even things out at 12 apiece.   Two more Koppl triples began an 11-0 run by the Lions.  Koppl finished with a game high 20 points including 5-10 from behind the arc while grabbing a game high 8 rebounds. 

Shpresa Liharevic scored a layup with one minute left in the half to bring STAC within seven, 31-24.  Sloper opened the second half scoring 7 of her points to bring STAC within five, 38-33.  However, the Lions went on a 14-2 run to take a 52-35 lead.  Theresa Dowling scored a pair of free throws to bring STAC within 11 with 3:30 left but the Lady Spartans would not get any closer.

STAC held a 42-35 rebounding edge over the Lions.  Dowling College received 17 points from Sarah Schicher who was 7-8 from the floor.  The Lions shot 52% from the floor to STAC's 34%.

The Lady Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they host Mercy College.
