Molloy Stops STAC in OT, 80-73

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost to Molloy College, 80-73 in OT.  Briana Sloper had 27 points and 14 rebounds for STAC.  Lenae Urbancik added 21 points and 5 rebounds. 

The Lady Spartans opened the game on an 18-5 run with 13:33 left in the first half.  Sloper connected on two free throws to extend STAC's lead to 18 with 7:21 on the clock.  Molloy went on a 14-4 run to come within six, 34-28 with :18 left in the half.  Natalie Catavero hit a 3-pointer just before the break to give STAC a 37-28 lead. 

Bianca Kowgios made a free throw to open the second half to give STAC a 38-28 lead and there only double digit lead for the second half.  The Lions closed within three on three occasions before Ashley Addison hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, 55-55 with 5:26 remaining.  A layup from Urbancik gave STAC back the advantage until Courtney Dolnick hit another three for Molloy to regain the lead.  The Lions hit their third consecutive 3-pointer to take a four point lead with 4:04 to go. 

Sloper scored a layup to give STAC a 64-63 lead with :36 seconds remaining.  Ikema Ross was fouled on the next play and made one of two to tie the game.  The Lady Spartans shot at the buzzer was off the mark leading them into overtime. 

Molloy College scored 12 of their 16 overtime points from the foul line to close out the game 80-73.  STAC had 5 of their 27 turnover's in the final period being held to a single field goal at the buzzer.  Addison finished with 20 points while Christina Marra added 15.  The Lions shot 10-18 from behind the arc. 

Kim Vareles and Theresa Dowling added 6 rebounds for the Lady Spartans who held a 39-32 rebounding advantage. 

STAC will return to action on Saturday when they host Dowling College at 1:00 PM.
