Lady Spartans Finish Regular Season with, 62-43 Victory

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team finished the regular season with a win at Queens College.  Shpresa Liharevic had 18 points including 4-8 from behind the arc.  Briana Sloper had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Theresa Dowling added 8 boards and 7 points. 

The Lady Spartans opened the game on a 10-0 run behind 5 points from Dowling.  Junior Natalie Catavero scored 5 points along with a Liharevic 3-pointer as STAC rattled off eight unanswered points to take a 24-8 lead at 9:45.  Liharevic hit her fourth 3-pointer just before the half ended to give STAC a 36-19 lead at the break.  The sophomore guard was 4-6 for the half.

Sloper scored 6 out STAC's first 8 points in the second half as the Lady Spartans took a 44-21 lead.  Freshman Riley Harrington added two second half 3-pointers the second coming at 5:05 to give STAC a 59-35 lead.  Fellow rookie Briana Cook added a layup with less then a minute to put STAC ahead 62-41.

Liharevic and Kim Vareles added 6 rebounds for STAC as they held a 46-44 rebounding advantage.  Bianca Kowgios dished out 4 assists for STAC and had 2 steals.  Amanda Bartlett and Christine Harnishfeger led Queens with 11 and 10 points respectively. 

The Lady Spartans improve to 21-7 and 17-4 in the East Coast Conference.  STAC clinched the regular season title along with the #1 seed in the ECC Championship.  They will face the winner of Wednesday's quarter-final game between C.W. Post and Queens.  The semi-final game will be held at Bridgeport at 12:00 p.m on Saturday.
