The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat Bridgeport, 62-48. Shpresa Liharevic had 20 points including 4-5 from behind the arc. Briana Sloper and Leane Urbancik added 11 points each while Bianca Kowgios had 10. Kowgios added 5 assists and 5 steals.
The Lady Spartans opened the game on a 10-0 run with 13:09 on the clock. Kowgios and Liharevic each had 4 points in the run. Urbancik scored a layup to extend STAC's lead to 12 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. STAC closed the half going 5 for 6 from the free throw line to take a 33-20 lead into the break.
Liharevic drained a 3 to open the second half and push the Lady Spartans lead to 16. Slopers layup at 12:24 gave STAC a 47-29 advantage. Freshman Sara Oliveira drained a 3-pointer from the corner to give STAC their largest lead of the day, 62-35 with 4:35 left in the game. The Lady Spartans held a 41-31 advantage on the glass. Theresa Dowling had 10 rebounds to go along with her 2 points, 2 assists and 3 steals. Kim Vareles added 8 rebounds for STAC.
Kelly Keil had 14 points for the Purple Knights. The Lady Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they host NYIT at 5:30 PM.
