Lady Spartans Fall at LIU-Post, 65-41

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team suffered its second straight setback in a 65-41 East Coast Conference loss at LIU-Post. Shpresa Liharevic led the Lady Spartans with 10 points but her squad fell to 13-13 overall and 9-7 in ECC play while Post improved to 17-7, 10-6.

Both teams would struggle to find offense early and one of the Lady Spartans' few high points came early, when Sara Oliviera gave her team a 3-2 lead 90 seconds into play. That would be STAC's lone score over the first six minutes of play as Post battled to an 8-3 lead. An Alyson Brennan jumper would draw the visitors to within three, but the Pioneers rode a 13-4 run to a 21-9 advantage and never looked back.

After grabbing a 27-15 halftime lead, Post would use a 15-7 burst to build a comfortable 42-22 cushion and STAC would not threaten thereafter. Nicolette Marciniak led all scorers with 15 points, Samantha Kopp added 11 to go with a dominant 20-rebound performance, and Kenyatta Sears added 10 for the Pioneers, who owned the glass by a 63-27 differential.

The Lady Spartans return to Aquinas Hall for their final regular season home game this Saturday, February 23 when the University of Bridgeport pays a visit. Tip-off time is set for 1:00, with pregame slated to include Senior Day festivities. The twin bill will conclude with the men's contest, set to start at 3:00 pm.
