STAC Women's Basketball Prevails at Nyack, 61-46

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team snapped a modest two-game skid with a 61-46 triumph at nearby Nyack College. Alyson Brennan recorded game-highs 12 points and eight rebounds, Ashley Motrechuk also had 12 points and Shpresa Liharevic added 10 points for STAC. The Lady Spartans now improve to 2-3 on the season with the non-conference win while Nyack drops to 0-6.

Both teams struggled to find offense in a first half which saw STAC open a 23-14 lead on the strenght of a 15-6 run. The hosts would rebound, however, posting six of the next eight points to cut the margin to 25-20 at halftime.

St. Thomas Aquinas held a tenuous 33-30 lead in the second stanza, but Motrechuk's three-pointer with just over 13 minutes remaining sparked the visitors to a 17-0 run, breaking the contest open. During the run, STAC kept the Warriors off the board for a tick under eight minutes of play.

STAC helped secure the victory at the foul line, hitting 15-of-18 shots (83%) while also winning the rebounding battle by a 52-38 count. Brianna Taylor and Jamie McKeither tied for the points lead for Nyack with nine each.

There is little rest to be had as STAC's women's squad returns to action this Monday night, November 26, hosting Holy Family University in a 5:30 pm start at Aquinas Hall. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to follow along via our video feed as well as Live Stats.
