Lady Spartans Soar Over Roberts Wesleyan, 64-56 on Liharevic's 31 Point Effort

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team won it's third straight with a 64-56 triumph in an East Coast Conference tilt at Roberts Wesleyan. Shpresa Liharevic hit seven treys en route to a career-high 31 points performance as STAC improved to 11-11 overall, 7-5 in conference while Roberts dropped to 10-10, 5-8.

In the opening minutes it was the Lady Spartans setting the pace, with a pair of Liharevic three-pointers opening up an 13-6 edge. STAC would then run cold, not recording a point in a 10-0 Redhawk run over a six-minute span, which ended with another Liharevic bomb tying the score at 16-16.

Roberts would continue the momentum, following with another run to open a 27-19 gap with 2:27 to play in the half, but the Lady Spartans would rise from the canvas with a 13-1 outburst to close the session with a 32-28 lead.

While the hosts would draw within two in the opening seconds of the second half, STAC's defense would take charge, holding Roberts off the board for over six minutes to open an eight-point gap. The Redhawks would threaten, but Liharevic would answer with several key buckets as STAC would come away with the road win.

Bianca Kowgios added 12 points for St. Thomas Aquinas, while Sarah Alwardt paced RWC with 12.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, February 9, when they host the University of the District of Columbia at Aquinas Hall. The East Coast Conference twin bill starts with women's action at 1:00, followed by the men's game, with both contests carried live on video as well as LiveStats.
