Three-Pointer Barrage Lifts Lady Spartans Hoops over Lincoln U, 64-45

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team utilized 11 three-pointers to storm to a 64-45 victory over Lincoln University at Aquinas Hall. Shpresa Liharevic led all scorers with 18 points while Sara Oliviera added 15 for the Lady Spartans who improve to 3-5 on the season, while visitors from Pennsylvania fall to 1-5.

Both teams struggled with offense early and Lincoln's Denyse Moore's jumper brought her team to within one at 14-13 with 7:59 remaining. The Lady Spartans would find their stride, however, running off the next 16 straight points over a 5:30 span, keyed by a pair of Oliviera treys. A Liharevic three in the waning seconds capped off a 23-5 spurt to close the session and give STAC a comfortable 37-18 cushion.

STAC's offsense stalled coming out of the break and an intense Lady Lions defense trimmed their deficit to just 11 at 42-31 with 13 minutes remaining. The Lady Spartans would not be denied, however, as Liharevic would hit two more from long distance and Alexis Breheny would add one of her own, accounting for a 9-0 run and a 51-31 lead allowing the hosts to cruise to victory.

The Lady Spartans hit 11-of-25 threes (44%) while Lincoln went just 2-of-17 (12%) from behind the arc. STAC's defense held their opponents to 25% shooting from the field (16-63), while St. Thomas Aquinas shot 39% overall (22-57).

After the non-conference tilt, the Lady Spartans will return to East Coast Conference action this Saturday, December 8, when they travel to face Molloy College in a twin-bill with the men's teams. They will return to Aquinas Hall on Saturday, December 15, for a 1:00 pm start against Pace University, before the men's team takes on Dominican College at 3:00 pm.
