Bridgeport Defeats Lady Spartans Hoops, 82-65

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell to its second straight defeat, 82-65 at the University of Bridgeport. Alyson Brennan led the Lady Spartans with 15 points and six rebounds as STAC dropped its second straight to fall to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the East Coast Conference, while Bridgeport moves to 10-6, 4-3.

From the outset the Lady Spartans struggled to find offense, trailing 19-10 midway through the first half. A pair of threes from Sara Oliviera quickly changed the complexion of the game, capping a 14-4 run and putting STAC ahead, 24-23 with just over five minues remaining.

Bridgeport would take charge for good, reeling off a 15-0 run that would extend into the first minute of the second half, to put the hosts in a 38-24 lead. While STAC would draw back to within seven points, the Purple Knights were never seriously threatened in crusing to the victory.

Sabrina Eggink added 10 points off the bench for St. Thomas Aquinas, but UB utilized a balanced attack that saw five players score in double-figures. Tanisha Carter registered a game-high 19 points, with teammates Jenna Hoffman (17), Aziza Patterson (16), Priscilla Dodoo (15) and Marie Biondi (10) had a hand in the conference triumph.

The Lady Spartans return to Aquinas Hall this Wednesday, January 23, hosting LIU-Post in an ECC tilt starting at 5:30. That game is the front end of a double-header which will be followed by the respective men's teams.
