The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell by a score of 88-78 in an East Coast Conference contest at Daemen College. Briana Cook led the Lady Spartans with 18 points but STAC fell to 7-7 overall, 3-6 in the ECC, with Daemen improving to 5-12, 2-9.
Daemen jumped out to an early 11-4 lead only to see STAC rally back to tie the score on a Kristen Olsen three pointer. A 7-2 spurt led the hosts to a 27-20 advantage and the Lady Spartans spent the rest of the evening trying to battle back. The Lady Spartans drew to within three points on several occasions before trailing 50-44 at the half.
STAC pulled to within 60-58 -on a Kristen Olsen basket, but a 13-2 Wildcat run opened up the gap to stay. Olsen added 15 points and Kaitlyn McCue chipped in with 14 for the Lady Spartans. For Daemen, four scorers hit double figures in the balanced scoring effort.
The Lady Spartans' trip north continues with a quick turnaround, as they take on Roberts Wesleyan in a 2:00 pm tipoff tomorrow, Saturday, January 25. The ECC battle is the front end of a twin-bill before the men's teams hit the floor. They will then return to the welcoming confines of Aquinas Hall to host Mercy College on Tuesday, January 28, with double header action starting with the Lady Spartans at 5:30 pm.
