Second Half Surge Caps STAC's Third Straight Win, 75-45, at Felician

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball rode a dominant second half effort to a 75-45 victory in a non-conference tilt at Felician College. Kristin Olsen came off the bench to lead STAC with 12 points as the team's third straight win improved their season mark to 5-3 overall. Felician dropped to 1-8 with the home setback.

Coming off a paiir of big conference victories, STAC stumbled out of the gate, being held scoreless for the first two minutes before Jenna Erickson ran off five straight points to give the Lady Spartans a 5-2 advantage.

KC Sokolski increased that lead to 17-8 with a layup just past the midway mark of the half when both teams went ice cold, with nearly three minutes of scoreless play ensuing. Felician broke the drought with four straight points to draw withing five when STAC finally saw an Olsen three-pointer extend the margin to 20-12.

STAC would extend the lead to as many as 12 points but the Golden Falcons stayed close, closing to five once again before Sabrina Eggink buzzer-beater sent the Lady Spartans into the locker room with a 29-22 lead.

St. Thomas Aquinas would come out breathing fire after the break, holding the hosts scoreless for nearly seven minutes while ripping off 15 straight points to create a more comfortable 44-22 gap. Felician would answer with a 9-0 outburst of their own, however, trimming that edge to a manageable 44-31 with 10 minutes still to play.

This time, the Lady Spartans would drop the hammer for good, with Samantha Lane's trey putting the exclamation point on an 11-0 STAC run as part of a dominant 22-2 outburst over a less than five minute span. The Lady Spartans were able to utilitize their full bench, with 13 different players in all hitting the score sheet.

In addition to Olsen, Erickson chipped in with 11 points while Alyson Brennan was a force on the glass with a game-high 16 rebounds. Ashley Morris was a standout for Felician, recording a game-high 15 points to go with 12 rebounds. STAC was the class on the glass, outrebounding the Golden Falcons by a 62-39 total.

The Lady Spartans will have a quick turnaround, playing their second of four straight road games on Saturday, December 13 at Dowling College. The East Coast Conference showdown will commence at 12:00 noon, followed by the men's teams in action. STAC will then travel to face Queens College in another conference match up on Wednesday, December 17.
