Lady Spartans Fall at Hawaii-Pacific, 78-52

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team continued its long trip west with a 78-52 setback at Hawaii-Pacific. After yesterday's exciting overtime victory at Chaminade, the Lady Spartans are now 1-1 on their three-game trip, falling to 2-2 overall. Hawaii-Pacific improved to 4-1 with the win.

Just one day earlier, the Lady Spartans waged a battle that saw 19 lead changes before emerging with an overtime win against Chaminade. Thanksgiving Day, however, would not be quite so exciting.

Hawaii-Pacific reeled off the game's first eight points, and after a pair of STAC hoops, added the next 11 straight to grab a convincing 19-4 lead near the midway mark of the opening session. That advantage would grow to as many as 27 points before the hosts settled for a comfortable 35-10 cushion at half. The Sharks would live up to their nickname, maintaining that dominance in cruising through the second half.

Adiya Henderson was the only STAC player in double-figures, with 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench. Veanne Navarro and Chenise Peone led four Hawaii-Pacific players in doubles with 17 points each. The one bright side of the contest was free throw shooting, which saw STAC post an impressive 92% on 22-of-24 from the stripe.

The Lady Spartans will wrap up their island journey on Friday, November 28, taking on Hawaii-Hilo in an 8:00 pm EST start. Upon their return home they will begin their East Coast Conference schedule at Molloy on December 3, and they return to Aquinas Hall for a conference tilt with Bridgeport on December 6.
