STAC Women's Hoops Falls at LIU-Post, 71-57

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell to a 71-57 defeat at LIU-Post in an East Coast Conference match-up. Jenna Erickson led the way with 14 points for the Lady Spartans, who fell to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play while LIU-Post improved to 8-5, 4-1.

Post came out of the gate strong, recording the contest's first six points in just over a minute. While the Lady Spartans would trim that margin to within 8-5, that was as close as they would come, with a 13-4 Pioneer run opening a 36-22 gap later in the half.

STAC would draw to within 38-28 by halftime, and a Kate McCue bucket drew the visitors to 40-35 two minutes after the break. LIU-Post rebounded quickly, holding STAC without a field goal for over five minutes while a 13-2 outburst opened a 53-37 lead that would not be threatened.

Sam Burden added 11 points and Lexi Breheny recorded 10 for the Lady Spartans, while the Pioneer tandem of Chelsea Williams (22 points) and Nyasia Davis (21 points, 16 rebounds) paced the scoring for the hosts.

The Lady Spartans are off until Friday, January 16, when they host Daemen College in the front end of an East Coast Conference double-header. The women's game starts at 6:00, followed by the men's contest.
