Roberts Wesleyan Pulls Away from Lady Spartans in 92-62 Decision

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team came up short in a 92-62 East Coast Conference setback against Roberts Wesleyan College at Aquinas Hall. Lexi Breheny led STAC with 12 points but the Lady Spartans fell to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in ECC play, with RWC improving to 10-3, 5-2.

STAC started the afternoon in promising fashion, with a Sabrina Eggink jumper giving the hosts a 23-15 advantage midway through the first half. The final minutes of the proved to be the turning point, however, as a 20-3 onslaught by the visitors turned an eight point deficit into a 41-32 halftime lead.

That momentum would carry through the break, with the Redhawks posting 12 of the first 14 points after the half to establish a comfortable 53-34 cushion, leading the visiting team to cruise to victory.

Jenna Erickson contributed 10 points for St. Thomas Aquinas, while Samantha Courtney came off the bench for Roberts Wesleyan to post a game-high 20 points, with teammate Lucy Covley adding 19. RWC was torrid from the field, lighting up a 65% total from the floor on 31-of-48 shooting.

The Lady Spartans will look to get back on track, hosting Mercy College on Tuesday, January 20 in another ECC battle. Game time is 6:00 pm, with the women's game preceding the men's contest to follow at approximately 8:00 pm.
