The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell to a 61-47 defeat in a non-conference battle at the University of New Haven. The Lady Spartans' three-game winning streak was snapped, dropping their overall record to 16-8, while New Haven's mark improved to 6-16.

STAC took an early 7-4 lead on a Jenna Erickson three pointer, but with the visitors holding a 9-8 advantage, UNH scored the next seven points and ended the first quarter on a 10-1 run to grab an 18-10 lead after one. Erickson again hit from deep as the Lady Spartans closed to 18-15 early in the second, and a Ruth Adams three-point play drew to 23-22 midway through the quarter.

Again, the Chargers would answer, with Alliyeah Cubbage capping a 7-0 run, and New Haven held a 31-24 cushion at halftime. That pattern held up in the third quarter, with STAC drawing to within three on a pair of occasions, only to see UNH end the frame with that same seven-point advantage at 42-35 entering the final session.

UNH left little doubt about the outcome while shutting out the Lady Spartans for over five minutes while embarking on a 10-0 run that opened an insurmountable chasm. Erickson scored 11 points to lead her squad, but STAC's 25% shooting from the field (16-65) was too much to overcome. Katia Oge led all scorers with 21 for New Haven, with Cubbage contributing 13.

The final four games of the regular season will be East Coast Conference affairs for the Lady Spartans, with three coming on the road. The first is this Saturday, February 11, at first-place Queens College. STAC celebrates Senior Night at Aquinas Hall on Wednesday, February 15, hosting Daemen in a 5:00 pm tip. They will then close out the slate at Bridgeport (February 18), and Mercy (February 21), as they attempt to secure a return to the ECC Tournament.
