Lady Spartans Fade Late in 67-53 Setback to Molloy

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell to a 67-53 defeat against Molloy College in an East Coast Conference tilt at Aquinas Hall. The Lady Spartans now stand at 13-6 overall and 7-3 in ECC action, with Molloy improving to 16-4, 8-2.

Jenna Erickson hit a three and Adiya Henderson added a bucket to give STAC an early 7-5 lead, but tenacious defense and a trio of three pointers by Kamala Thompson led to a 13-0 Molloy run, part of a 20-9 lead after one quarter.

STAC turned the tables in the second quarter, holding the Lions off the board for nearly the final six minutes of the quarter, with Sam Burden's jumper capping an 8-0 burst to trim the deficit to 31-28 at the half.

Molloy continued to hold the lead until four straight Henderson free throws brought the hosts even at 42-42 with just over a minute left in the third, but Maya Joyner followed with a pair of foul shots that put the hosts ahead for good.

Kathryn Gibson's three opened a 51-42 lead for the Lions, as STAC recorded just three points over the first seven minutes of the final stanza, lifting Molloy to its eighth straight win.

Henderson led the Lady Spartans with 19 points and 10 rebounds, with Jenna Erickson scoring 12. Thompson led all scorers with 20 points and added 12 boards, and Aliyah McDonald chipped in 17 for Molloy, who turned the ball over only nine times to just 11 for the hosts.

The Lady Spartans return to action on Wednesday, January 25, traveling to face Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC battle. They then travel to NYIT on Saturday, January 28 before returning to Aquinas Hall to host LIU Post on Wednesday, February 1, at 5:30 pm.
