Erickson's 20 Leads Lady Spartans to 90-73 Opening Game Win vs. Wilmington

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team opened the season with a 90-73 victory over Wilmington University at the STAC Tip-off Classic at Aquinas Hall. Jenna Erickson hit six three pointers and scored a game-high 20 points, while Adiya Henderson chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Spartans. La Shyra Williams led the way for Wilmington with 18 points.

STAC wasted little time unveiling a high-powered offense as an Erickson trey opened an early 9-2 lead, and the Lady Spartans exploded to a 16-0 run to end the first quarter with a 29-12 lead. That gap would climb to as high as 23 points before the hosts cruised into halftime with a 47-30 advantage.

Wilmington made a third-quarter run with Ebonee Dixon's jumper cutting the margin to just 56-49 with 1:47 left, but a Ruth Adams field goal and a pair of free throws by Henderson staked the Lady Spartans to an 11 point lead after three, but that was as close as the Wildcats were to get, as a 12-0 run in the final stanza helped STAC secure the win.

Samantha Burden added 12 points and Kaitlyn McCue chipped in 10 as four players hit double-figures for STAC, while Dixon's 15 played a supporting role for Wilmington. The Lady Spartans were torrid from behind the arc, hitting 12-of-21 three pointers (.571) on the afternoon.

The Lady Spartans close out the weekend invitational on Sunday in a rivalry game against Dominican College, with tip time set for 3:00 pm.
