#19 Lady Spartans Roll to 8th Straight in 65-44 Victory at Daemen

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team, ranked #19 in the nation, captured a 65-44 East Coast Conference victory at Daemen College. The Lady Spartans remain perfect at 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in ECC action, with Daemen falling to 2-7, 0-1.

Jenna Erickson led all scorers with 21 points while Julia Winnik added 16 for St. Thomas Aquinas. Sarah Saba paced the Wildcats with 14 points.

Both teams struggled mightily from the field in the first half, as a Winnik trey gave STAC an 8-2 lead but they did not score for the last five minutes of the first quarter, as Jordan Heinold's three cut the lead to a scant 8-5 after 10 minutes. Erickson hit a pair from deep as part of an 8-0 run, staking the Lady Spartans to a 23-15 halftime margin.

STAC scored the first five coming out of the break and a pair of Adiya Henderson hoops opened the gap to 35-18 with two minutes left in the third, as the visitors cruised from there. Henderson chipped in 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while Heinold aided Daemen's effort with 10 points. St. Thomas Aquinas continued its tenacious defensive efforts by forcing 29 turnovers, while yeilding just 14 on the evening.

The Lady Spartans are now 2-0 in their current string of six straight on the road, which continues with a non-conference tilt at the College of Saint Rose on Sunday, December 10. They resume conference play with a trip to Molloy College on Saturday, December 16 with a noon tip.
