Bertolino Nets 25; #8 Lady Spartans Win 10th Straight, 58-47 at Molloy

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team won it's 10th straight game, a 58-47 East Coast Conference triumph at Molloy College. Ranked #8 in the nation in this week's D2SIDA poll, the Lady Spartans now stand at 10-0 overall and are tied for first place in the ECC standings with LIU Post at 3-0. Molloy fell to 6-5, 1-2 with the loss.

Alex Bertolino paced the scoring for STAC with a game-high 25 points, with Jenna Erickson adding 10. Ihnacense Grady kept the Lions in the game with a team-leading 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.

STAC started strong, with Bertolino hitting two from deep and Erickson adding another as the visitors bolted to a 13-2 lead just over four minutes into play. That proved to be the difference, as the Lady Spartans opened a 20-8 lead, only to see Molloy run off seven straight points, followed by an 8-0 response by STAC. All of that added up to a 34-23 St. Thomas Aquinas lead at halftime.

Molloy's defense turned up the heat late in the third quarter, as the Lions rode an 8-0 run over the final five minutes to draw within 43-38. In the fourth, it was STAC's defense that kept them afloat as neither team scored over the first three minutes of the session before Erickson's layup broke the drought to give her team a seven point advantage. STAC held the hosts to just two points over the first seven minutes of the final session, and their 10-2 run over that span was enough to secure the win.

The Lady Spartans have now won four straight in their stretch of 6-in-a-row on the road, with that span wrapping up with a pair of tough non-conference showdowns. STAC travels to Southern Connecticut for a 1:00 pm start on Tuesday, December 19, then returns from the holiday break to visit Pace on December 30. They return to Aquinas Hall to host Mercy College on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
