The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team won its third straight to start the season, a 56-34 victory over the University of New Haven at Aquinas Hall. The Lady Spartans have won each of their three games at home, while New Haven fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Adiya Henderson scored the first four points of the game, and tenacious defense held the Chargers without a field goal for the first 5:33 of play as STAC built a 9-1 lead. By the time Chelsea Murphy's lay-up closed out the first quarter, the Lady Spartans built a 21-6 advantage. That lead increased to as many as 20 before halftime, but a pair of free throws from Alexandria Kerr cut the gap to 33-18 at the intermission.

Khayla Trowell's jumper 27 seconds into the third quarter trimmed to deficit to 33-20, but the Lady Spartans would hold the visitors off the board for the next eight minutes and allowed only four points for the quarter, and a late three from Zaria Thomas opened a comfortable 42-22 cushion that was never threatened.

Alex Bertolino and Thomas each netted 12 points to lead STAC, with Jenna Erickson adding 10. Kerr paced the Chargers with game-highs of 13 points and seven rebounds, and UNH finished the contest with a 36-30 rebounding edge while being held to just 24% shooting from the field (12-51). The hosts hit eight three-pointers, with Thomas leading the way on torrid 4-of-5 marksmanship from beyond the arc.

The Lady Spartans hit the road to face Nyack College on Friday, November 17 before returning home to take on Concordia College in a 1:00 pm start on Sunday, November 26.
