The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team won its eighth straight, a 79-58 East Coast Conference decision over Roberts Wesleyan College at Aquinas Hall. The Spartans, ranked #5 in this week's NCAA East Region poll, improve to 24-3 overall and 15-1 in ECC play, clinching the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament as well as at least a share of the regular-season championship. Roberts Wesleyan remains in position to clinch a tournament berth despite slipping to 12-14, 8-8.

Coming off Friday's impressive win in a first-place showdown with Daemen College, the Spartans picked up where they left off. A pair of Zaria Thomas threes opened an early 8-2 lead, but the Redhawks draw to within 11-8 on a Tashayla Sutorius layup midway through the quarter. STAC took off on a 14-2 run with Ruth Adams netting five points and Missy Sadler hitting a pair of jumpers, opening a 25-10 advantage that gave way to a 29-13 margin after one.

STAC's stifling defense held RWC to just one field goal over the first four minutes of the second stanza as a Thomas layup opened the gap to 33-15. That lead ballooned to as many as 23 before the Spartans carried a comfortable 46-25 advantage into intermission.

Sutorius converted a three-point play and Taylor Bynoe scored as the Redhawks showed life in cutting the margin to 46-30, but Thomas stalled the run with a trey, setting off a 9-0 STAC answer and the lead was never threatened. Each team had four scorers in double-figures with Thomas leading STAC with 16, followed by Sadler (14), Adams (11), and Emily Preston (10) spreading the offense. Sutorius led Roberts Wesleyan with 15, while Taryn Wilson added 14.

The Spartans hit the road this Wednesday, February 27, taking on Queens College in a 7:00 pm start (note start time). They wrap up the regular season on Senior Day, Saturday, March 2, hosting Molloy College for a 1:00 pm start. STAC has already earned a first-round bye in the upcoming ECC Tournament, and will play in the semi-finals at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, March 9, with time and opponents to be determined.
