St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball players Zaria Thomas and Melissa Sadler were named the East Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively on Monday, following the Spartans 2-0 start on the hardwood, which included home victories over American International College and Dominican College.
Thomas averaged 18.5 points per game against the Yellow Jackets (W, 87-51) on Friday evening and the Chargers (W, 85-65) on Saturday afternoon. The junior guard from Elmira, NY shot 50.0 percent (13-for-26) from the field, 50.0 percent (9-for-18) from the three-point line and 100.0 percent (2-for-2) from the foul line. In addition, Zaria picked up 1 rebound, 5 assists and 5 steals on the weekend.
Sadler, the senior forward from Milton, NY, averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in the same 2 contests. Melissa shot 47.6% (10-for-21) from the field and 50.0 percent (1-for-2) from the free throw line, while also picking up 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 steals.
The Spartans will next host Bloomfield College on Wednesday, November 13 in a 5:30 pm start at Aquinas Hall. They will hit the road to take on Pace University on November 16.
