STAC Women's Basketball Falls at Caldwell, 63-42

Caldwell, N.J. - Despite getting a 10-point effort from Victoria Kurisko, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team fell to Caldwell University, 63-42 on Wednesday evening at Corino Court in Caldwell.

Seven different players recorded a point for the Spartans, with Victoria Kurisko leading the way, scoring in double-figures.

STAC shot 26.8 percent from the field (15-56) in contest, while making 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the foul line. Caldwell shot 37.5% (24-64) and made 9-of-12 (75.0%) free throws.

STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES:

  • Seven different players recorded double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Katie Bischoping and Karolina Jaruseviciute led the Spartans with two assists each.
  • Victoria Kurisko made 4 of her 11 field goal attempts on the day, with Angelique Holguin going 3-for-10.
  • STAC scored the game's first basket at 8:51 of the first quarter on a Chanel Brodeur-Muir jump shot and extended their largest lead of the game at 4-0 on a Holguin layup.
  • Holguin grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First quarter

  • STAC raced out to an 4-0 lead with just under eight and a half minutes left in the first quarter.
  • The Spartans managed to shoot just 4-of-15 in the opening frame.
  • Conversely, the Cougars went 4-of-18 in the first stanza, but held a slim 9-8 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Second quarter

  • Paula Dits posted five points in eight minutes by going 2-for-3 from the field and 1-for-2 from three-point.
  • Erin Leary led all Spartan scorers in the stanza with five points.
  • Victoria Kurisko lead the Spartans in rebounding for the quarter with three.

Third quarter

  • Chanel Brodeur-Muir posted two points and four rebounds in the quarter.
  • Jessica Wagoner led the way for Caldwell with five points in the frame, going 2-for-3 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the foul line.

Fourth Quarter

  • Katie Bischoping and Victoria Kurisko recorded four points each in the final quarter.
  • Casey O'Shaughnessy registered six points for the Cougars and picked up three steals.
