STAC's Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short Against Post, 63-56

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team fell to Post University, 63-56, Wednesday evening at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium in Sparkill. The Spartans dropped to 1-6 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 5-1.

How it Happened

  • Despite opening the contest with an 8-1 advantage after the first five minutes of play, the Spartans were down 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Eagles led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter, with Kyla Ramseur and Jaeonna Sutton leading the way with five points apiece to make it 27-17 Post through 20 minutes of play.
  • STAC chipped away at deficits of 10 and 12 on multiple occasions in the third quarter to get within five at 37-32 at the end of the stanza.
  • In the final 10 minutes of action, the Spartans stayed close on the scoreboard with the Eagles, before the visitors burst out to a nine-point lead (51-42) with just over four and a half minutes left in regulation.
  • STAC stormed back on the strength on buckets by Victoria Kurisko, Sarah Ericson and Chanel Brodeur-Muir to get within six at 57-51 with a little over a minute to go in the game.
  • The Spartans would foul on consecutive defensive possessions, hoping the Eagles would miss free throws each trip to the foul line and give STAC a small window of opportunity to tighten the score on its offensive sets on the other end of the floor. However, Post would sink 6-of-12 free throws down the stretch to maintain their advantage and pick up the 63-56 victory.
