Sarah Ericson and Erin Leary Score ECC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball players Sarah Ericson and Erin Leary were named the East Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week respectively on Monday, following the Spartans sweep of contests against Buffalo-area teams; Daemen University (70-59) and D'Youville University (67-46) last weekend.

Ericson (Norwich, Conn.) averaged 27.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 4.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game over two contests last week for STAC. The junior guard dropped 30 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out six assists, and forced six steals in 37 minutes against the Wildcats, before recording 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and five blocks in 36 minutes versus the Saints. Sarah also shot 54.0 percent (20-of-37) from the field, 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three and 88.8 percent (8-of-9) from the foul line in a 2-0 week and sits second in the ECC in scoring (16.5 ppg). 

Meanwhile, Leary (Carle Place, N.Y.) averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game over two contests last week for the Spartans. The junior forward picked up 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished an assist in 28 minutes versus Daemen, before recording 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and four blocks against D'Youville. Erin ranks fourth in the ECC in rebounds per game (7.6). 

STAC continues its four-game homestand, hosting the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, January 24. The Spartans and Firebirds will battle inside of Aquinas Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m.
