Sarah Ericson and Erin Leary Earn ECC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball players Sarah Ericson and Erin Leary were named the East Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week for a second consecutive week respectively on Monday, following the Spartans sweep of contests against the University of the District of Columbia (68-62) and the College of Staten Island (74-55) last week.

Ericson (Norwich, Conn.) averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC. The junior guard tallied 21 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out three assists, and forced two steals in 38 minutes versus the Firebirds before recording 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in 38 minutes against the Dolphins. Ericson also shot 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the field, 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the foul line in a 2-0 week. She ranks second in the ECC and fifth in the NCAA East Region in scoring with 17.0 points per game.  

Meanwhile, Leary (Carle Place, N.Y.) averaged 9.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game over two contests last week for STAC. The junior forward picked up 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists, forced a steal and blocked two shots in 35 minutes against District of Columbia before recording eight points, 16 rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block in 34 minutes versus Staten Island. She ranks second in the ECC and third in the NCAA East Region in defensive rebounds per game, with 6.5. 

STAC heads out to Long Island to take on Molloy University in another East Coast Conference matchup on Wednesday, January 31. The Spartans and Lions will tip things off inside of Quealy Gymnasium (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) at 5:00 p.m.
