James Patterson and Erin Leary Earn Met Basketball Writers Association Division II/III Player of the Week Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas College Basketball players James Patterson and Erin Leary were named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division II/III Players of Week on Tuesday, following a four-game sweep of contests by both the men's and women's squads against the University of Bridgeport and Roberts Wesleyan University last week.

Patterson (Richmond, Va.) averaged 28.5 points per game with 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC, now on an eight-game winning streak. The sophomore guard/forward tallied 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out two assists, and forced a steal in 30 minutes against the Purple Knights before recording 30 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 34 minutes versus the Redhawks. Patterson also shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the foul line in a 2-0 week for the Spartans, who sit atop the conference standings with a 10-1 ECC record. The now three-time MBWA Player of the Week leads the entire NCAA East Region and ranks third nationally in scoring with 24.3 points per game. 

Leary (Carle Place, N.Y.) averaged 25.0 points per game with 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC, now on a two-game winning streak. The junior forward tallied 24 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out an assist, forced two steals and blocked two shots in 36 minutes in a 59-45 win over Bridgeport before recording 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a steal in 39 minutes in a 67-48 win over Roberts Wesleyan. Leary also shot 43.9 percent (18-of-41) from the field and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the foul line in a 2-0 week for the Spartans, who sit in second place in the conference standings with an 8-3 ECC record, just a game behind first-place Daemen (9-2).
