Erin Leary's Double-Double Powers STAC to 67-48 Victory Over Roberts Wesleyan

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team earned its second straight victory on Sunday afternoon with a spirited 67-48 decision over Roberts Wesleyan University on Breast Cancer Awareness day at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.

STAC improves to 14-9 overall and 8-3 in ECC play, while Roberts Wesleyan slides to 5-13 and 1-9 on the year.

Erin Leary led the way for the Spartans, recording a game-high 26 points, along with 12 rebounds, while teammates Bailey Chapman (14 points) and Sarah Ericson (12 points) also posted double figures in scoring.

STAC shot 33.8 percent (24-71) from the field and a red-hot 93.3 percent (14-15) from the foul line, while Roberts Wesleyan shot 29.3 percent (17-58) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Seven Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest. 
  • Trinity Cheatom and Erin Leary led the maroon and gold with four assists apiece on the afternoon.
  • Leary hit 9 of her 25 field goal attempts and 7 of 8 free throws. Meanwhile, Bailey Chapman went 5-of-9 from the floor, with two shots falling from distance.
  • Roberts Wesleyan out-rebounded STAC by a slim 46-45 margin, with Erin Leary grabbing a game-high 12 boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up five steals, with the Redhawks turning the ball over on 18 separate occasions.

  • Georgia Haverlock went 4-for-18 from the floor, with Emily Palmer hitting 4 of her 7 field goal attempts.
  • Grace Dow grabbed a team-high 11 boards for the Redhawks.
  • Roberts Wesleyan picked up five steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 11 separate occasions.
  • RWU earned an advantage in one team statistical category over St. Thomas Aquinas: Bench Points (15-8)
  • Roberts Wesleyan had its largest lead in the game (five points) in the waning moments of the second quarter.
  • RWU and STAC combined for 16 total points in the second quarter, with the visitors from Rochester outscoring their hosts 9-7.
