
Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team saw its struggles continue on Saturday afternoon, dropping their seventh straight contest, a 57-44 road decision to the College of Staten Island.
STAC falls to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in ECC play, while CSI improves to 10-6 and 4-1.
Trinity Cheatom posted a team-high 12 points for the maroon and gold, while teammate Delaney Finnegan (11 points) also scored in double figures. Alexa Quirolo led the host Dolphins with 15 points.
St. Thomas Aquinas shot 35.1 percent from the field (20-57), while CSI shot 40.4 percent (19-47) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seven Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Trinity Cheatom also led the maroon and gold with seven assists on the afternoon.
- Cheatom hit 5 of her 12 field goal attempts, with 2-of-6 shots sailing through the nets from long range. Meanwhile, Delaney Finnegan went 5-for-10 from the floor.
- CSI out-rebounded STAC by 39-30 margin, with Trinity Cheatom also grabbing a team-high eight boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas forced 11 steals, with the Dolphins turning the ball over on 23 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in three team statistical categories over Staten Island: Second Chance Points (6-5), Points in the Paint (30-18) and Fastbreak Points (7-6).
- The game featured six ties and four lead changes.
- St. Thomas Aquinas trailed Staten Island 31-26 at the half and shot just 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from the field.
- Trinity Cheatom led all scorers with 10 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 50.0 percent from both the field (4-for-8) and three-point (2-of-4).
STATEN ISLAND NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nine Dolphins logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Alexa Quirolo led CSI with 15 points. Teammate Jenalyse Alarcon (13 points) also scored in double figures.
- Amber Abusbeih led CSI with six assists on the day.
- Quirolo went 5-for-11 from the floor, 3-of-6 from three and 2-of-2 from the foul line, with Alarcon hitting 4 of her 8 field goal attempts and 5-of-8 free throws.
- Jenalyse Alarcon also grabbed a game-high 10 boards for the Dolphins.
- Staten Island picked up eight steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 20 separate occasions.
- The Dolphins earned on advantage in the team statistical category over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (13-12).
- CSI had its largest lead of the game (16 points) with 6:43 to play in the third quarter, 42-26, on an Amber Abusbeih three-point jumper.
- Jenalyse Alarcon led all Dolphins scorers at the half with eight points on 3-of-5 (60.0 percent) shooting from the field.
- CSI's best shooting quarter came in the second stanza, with the Dolphins shooting 53.8 percent (7-13) from the field and 50.0 percent (2-4) from beyond the arc.
- The Dolphins victory on Saturday is the first against St. Thomas Aquinas since December 1, 1982. STAC was also 6-0 in previous ECC matchups dating back to January of 2022.
